Montreal, Quebec, October 25th, 2006 SmartSoil Energy Obtains Greenhouse Gas Verification Certification SmartSoil Energy is pleased to announce that Simon Jasmin has successfully completed the Greenhouse Gas Verification Training. This certification, granted by Environment Canada's Greenhouse Gas Division, will help SmartSoil Energy improve its client service offering by supporting greenhouse gas emissions reduction project documentation for Canadian and international validation, or CER's (CO2 credits). In landfills, methane is produced by the anaerobic waste degradation. This landfill gas then oozes away from the landfill into the atmosphere. Methane is among the six main greenhouse gases. Its impact is 21 times worse than that of CO2. By capturing methane gas from landfills, SmartSoil's action is two-fold: the company upgrades landfill gas into green and renewable energy (such as electricity and methane gas), and reduces greenhouse gas emissions which otherwise, would contribute to climate warming. According to Environment Canada, 27 000 KT CO2 stem from Canadian municipal landfills. "Methane measurement and analysis are a continuous concern here", explains Simon Jasmin, Director, Engineering and Research and Development (R&D) from SmartSoil Energy. "Our SmartSoil-Biogas systems already feature integrated modules that ease this process. Besides, seeing my son each morning reminds me that at the end of the day, he and his generation will benefit from my work. That what really matters, for me and my team." *** SmartSoil Energy Inc. is a leading provider of clean energy technology, developed by its parent company Soconag, in the worldwide campaign towards climate protection. SmartSoil does so by providing innovative solutions for transforming “problem biomass” into clean gaseous fuel, primarily through landfill-gas-to-energy initiatives. Its patented and certified technology provides unprecedented monitoring and control capabilities. For more information, visit us at www.smartsoil.com. Environment Canada's Greenhouse Gas Division is Canada's central agency responsible for Canada's National System for monitoring, analyzing and reporting emissions and removals of greenhouse gases (GHG's), in accordance with the requirements of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and the Kyoto Protocol.
